Kevin Durant will sit tonight’s game against the Kings because of a sprained right big toe. He injured it Saturday against the Hornets in the second quarter after stubbing it on an opponent’s foot.

He played the rest of that game, logging 35 minutes with 29 points and 11 rebounds.

The team says Durant will “see how he feels” over the next few days. It sounds likely he’ll miss Wednesday’s game against the Grizzlies, and could be out a few more. The Thunder’s upcoming week: Kings, Grizzlies, at the Lakers, at the Blazers.

Durant sprained his left big toe last season against the Cavs and missed four games.

To answer a few of the panicked questions I got on Twitter: 1) No, this does not have anything to do with the Jones fracture; 2) No, Durant isn’t “fragile” or injury prone; he plays sports and sometimes you get injured playing sports; and 3) No, this isn’t secretly anything more serious than a sprained toe. He has a sprained toe, and he’ll be back in a few games.

With Durant, the Thunder are 21-7 and outscore opponents by 15.1 points per 100 possessions with him on the floor. Without, they’re 3-3 and are just a +0.2 per 100 in the games he missed.
