Monday Bolts – 11.25.13
Allen Iverson talks about the greatness of Kevin Durant: “When asked about the possibility of Kevin Durant “passing LeBron,” Iverson said that he doesn’t have to because KD will go down as one of the greats and his name will have to be mentioned the same way Magic and Bird have to be mentioned when you talk about Michael.”
Thunder Roundtable: “Give me one tweak you would make to Scott Brooks’ current rotation. Mayberry – Why? If it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. On Wednesday, I wrote about Brooks being more flexible this year with his rotation, lineups and minute distribution. He’s done a superb job so far. Nobody that isn’t playing should be playing. Slater – I’d find a way to get Reggie Jackson more minutes. He’s averaging 23.1 right now. James Harden averaged 31.4 two seasons ago, Kevin Martin 27.7 last year. Jackson isn’t as established as either of those two, but he certainly looks ready for an enhanced role. Take a few minutes away from Thabo, a few from Fisher, a few from one of the bigs. Whatever. Just find a way to get the third-year playmaker more court time. Tramel – I’ve got no major gripes right now. I might play Derek Fisher less, but of course, he’s needed mightily at times.”
Kendrick Perkins opens up about his grandfather: “Q: What did your grandfather mean to you? A: That was my best friend. He was the best man at my wedding, so that should tell you a lot. My mom died when I was 5. My grandparents took me when I was up for adoption. He was around 49 so he was a young grandfather. He took me in and just raised me. Me and him were best friends all through the years. Everywhere he went I went. He’s the one that first taught me how to cut grass, to fish; we had chickens and ducks and stuff, how to do all that stuff. He’s the one who taught me how to be who I am today. He put up my first basketball goal, but he also was the one who kept me in church. Words can’t really express what he meant to me. It’s like when I lost him, I lost a piece of my soul. But at the end of the day, I know he’s in a better place.”
Ty Corbin looks for a shake-up, doesn’t get one: “On the heels of a loss in Dallas that saw the Mavericks push the lead to 28 in the first half, the Utah Jazz coach made his most drastic changes of the season to his starting lineup Sunday night against the Thunder. Corbin started rookie Trey Burke at point guard and moved center Enes Kanter to the bench in favor of veteran Marvin Williams. But the unit that helped spark a second-half rally in Texas wasn’t the answer against Kevin Durant and Oklahoma City, as the Thunder cruised to a 95-73 victory.”
Kendrick Perkins trying to get past difficult start to season: “It ain’t like I’m a 36, 37 year old man,” Perkins said. “I’m just 29 myself. So I’m just not really willing to take a backseat just yet.” Perkins, however, understands that his production dictates his playing time. And he’s currently trying to revert to the days where he was not only dominant defensively but also a threat to finish plays with regularity offensively. “I don’t know if you noticed, but I’ve been a little bit more aggressive these last couple of games on the offensive end,” Perkins said. “That’s what I’m about to get back to.”
Derrick Rose. It is sad: “A specific recovery timeline for Rose is not yet known, but a meniscus tear isn’t necessarily a season-ending injury. It’s a significantly less serious injury than the ACL tear Rose suffered in his other knee during the 2012 playoffs that led him to sit out the entire 2012-13 season. Rose’s timeline will likely be determined by the type of surgery doctors pursue. Thunder All-Star guard Russell Westbrook suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee during the 2013 playoffs and he elected to have the tear repaired, ending his season. He returned in November after a second arthroscopic surgery on the knee during training camp.”
Charlotte basketball bringing back purple and teal color palette: “Sunday, the Bobcats/Hornets announced their new color way for the change in 2014-15 when the Hornets name is officially used again. We’ll be seeing the old purple and teal colors with black, cool gray, and light blue as the secondary colors. The Bobcats/Hornets are going to “paint the city” with advertising to bring the colors back into the forefront of Charlotte fans.” They’re my bolts and I can post what I want.
