Report: Thunder to sign Nazr Mohammad
The Thunder will sign retired big man Nazr Mohammad for the remainder of the season, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.
Mohammed is 38 years old and last played wit the Bulls last season, appearing in 23 games. He went unsigned over the summer, but continued to work out during the season.
Mohammad played two seasons for the Thunder from 2010-2012, and was highly respected in the locker room. That’s clearly what the move is for, to add an established veteran voice back to the team, something that’s been missing since trading Kendrick Perkins last season.
The Thunder had interest in a number of other players in the buyout market — Joe Johnson, namely — but he elected to sign elsewhere. And since probably no one else was interested in Mohammad, he wasn’t that hard to get.
Effectively, the Thunder had three options: 1) Sign nobody and just leave an open spot for no reason at all; 2) sign a D-League guy that would never play or 3) sign a veteran guy that is never going to play.
