Reports: Enes Kanter signing offer sheet with Portland
There were basically three teams with cap space left to offer Enes Kanter what he wanted. And the Portland Trail Blazers have stepped up.
According to multiple reports, the Blazers will sign Kanter to an offer sheet, and the numbers aren’t pretty: According to Yahoo Sports, it’s a four-year, $70 million offer.
The Thunder have three days to match — or not — during which time the Blazers’ will have their cap space tied up as if Kanter has signed with them.
The Thunder have slow-played Kanter’s restricted free agency, making him an early offer and waiting for the market to pan out with any other potential suitors. With it mostly dried up, the Blazers have come in and decided to throw one out, which could be to the Thunder’s advantage if it’s less than the max. The Thunder assuredly low-balled Kanter, because why wouldn’t they? They hold all the leverage in these negotiations, and can just wait and decide.
But now the clock is about to start and it’s decision time for the Thunder.
