Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 2019-20 Report Card
Mid-Season Grade: A-
Reader Grade: A (76% of votes)
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City in points scored and minutes played, appeared in the Rising Stars Game and Skills Challenge at the 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend, and settled the “Fresh Prince of OKC” debate for Daily Thunder. As Dom Flaim recently wrote, SGA’s leap from year one to year two was an objective marvel, and gave subjective reassurance for Thunder fans worried about a post-Westbrook future.
“He’s made leaps in most metrics across the board. Gilgeous-Alexander’s growth is on par with players like Devonte’ Graham, Brandon Ingram, and compares to Bam Adebayo in pure year-over-year improvement. He might not have proven he’s a franchise level talent quite on par with Doncic, Tatum, or even Adebayo, but SGA has made the jump from prospect to bonafide second banana for a good team.
And while being in the running for an award is nice, Shai’s development brightening the Thunder’s future is nicer.”
