Thunder add assistants Robert Pack and Mike Terpstra

With two open coaching vacancies on the bench, the Thunder have finally filled the positions.

Robert Pack and Mike Terpstra will join Scott Brooks’ staff as assistants after Mo Cheeks and Maz Trakh went to Detroit.

“We’re excited to add Robert and Mike to our coaching staff for the upcoming season,” said Scott Brooks in a release. “These additions bring diverse backgrounds to our group that will help the further development of our players.”

Pack, 44, is a former player that has spent the previous three seasons as an assistant with the Clippers. Previous to that, he coached one season with the Hornets. Pack played for seven NBA teams from 1991-2004. In 552 career NBA games as a point guard, Pack averaged 8.9 points, two rebounds, 4.6 assists.

Cheeks was Brooks’ top assistant and it’s unknown right now if Pack will assume that position as well or if Brooks will promote one of his other assistants into that role.

Pack primarily worked with the Clippers’ guards, specifically point guards. Cheeks’ top job in OKC was to mentor the point guards.

Pack has been considered a rising coaching star and was a head coaching candidate for a few teams this offseason.

Terpstra joins the staff after building 20 years of coaching experience at the college, junior college and high school levels, as well as in the NBA D-League and CBA. He spent the 2005-06 season with the Idaho Stampede of the CBA, as well as with the Colorado 14ers of the D-League.
