Thunder ink Kyle Singler to five-year deal

According to sources and multiple reports, Kyle Singler has re-signed with the Thunder on a five-year deal (final year a team option) worth nearly $25 million.

Singler, 27, wasn’t great in his brief spell with the Thunder last season, but the team remains extremely high on him as a quality role player to provide depth behind Kevin Durant. Singler is a solid shooter and quality defender, but unexpectedly thrown into a starting role last season with OKC, wasn’t able to find a consistent rhythm.

Singler drew quite a bit of interest from other teams, which added incentive for the Thunder to get a deal done directly with him so as to remove the danger of an high level offer sheet tempting him.

At $5 million per, Singler will take the Thunder’s cap number to around $82 million, already above the luxury tax threshold.

With Singler signed, the Thunder now turn their attention to finalizing an agreement with restricted free agent Enes Kanter. According to sources, the Thunder were set to meet with Kanter and his representation on Wednesday and are said to be in a strong position to re-sign the Turkish big man.

Signing Singler could also spell the end for Perry Jones III and/or Steve Novak as the Thunder look to clear roster spots and shed additional salary as the move into the luxury tax.
