Thunder Sign Luguentz Dort to a Multi-Year Contract
Per a team release, the Thunder and Lu Dort have agreed on a multi-year contract. Dort had been occupying one of the team’s two-way slots on the 17-man roster, splitting time between the G League and NBA before their respective seasons were canceled and suspended. The length and salary terms of the deal are still unknown, but reporting will follow on that front.
Converting Dort from a two-way contract to a standard deal moves him onto the team’s 15-man roster and charges his salary against the cap, which will increase the team’s luxury tax payment for this season. The move also removes Oklahoma City’s ability to add another player for the end of the season (unless they release someone else).
An undrafted rookie, Dort became a fan favorite as he ascended from the G League to the Thunder’s starting lineup. He has appeared in 29 games (21 as a starter), showing flashes of offensive ability while holding up as a defensive specialist against opposing guards.
Had he not been unconverted during the league’s current transaction window, he would have remained on the team through the end of the season and become a restricted free agent in the offseason.
