Thunder to Trade Dennis Schröder to Lakers for Danny Green, First Rounder

Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN) reports that the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a trade sending Dennis Schröder to LA in exchange for the 28th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and Danny Green.

Schröder spent two seasons with the Thunder, peaking as a Sixth Man of the Year candidate with his strong 2019-20 campaign. The point guard is on an expiring, $15.5 million contract, very close in value to Green’s $15.36 million expiring deal for this season. The league is still technically operating under a trade moratorium, which is set to lift tomorrow at 11AM central time for deals like this to be officially processed.

Green, a streaky but established 3&D wing, will likely be dangled as trade bait for more Thunder asset accumulation. Along with rumblings around Chris Paul, this figures to be the first in multiple deals by OKC that will move veteran value for future picks and/or prospects. Moving Schröder and Paul in particular also serves the team building end of clearing the way for more responsibility handed to team’s best developing prospect: guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
