Zach Lowe of SI on KD’s movie role and distractions: “Durant is obviously a gym rat, and so he is basically untouchable in this regard, even if a bit of the “He should be working on his post game!” tsk-tsking is bubbling up (see the comments section) in a few corners of the Internet. He has played this summer in just about every legitimate streetball venue; he tweets often about his practice habits; and several magazine profiles have captured his commitment to the game.”
Trey Kerby of TBJ comes up with some movie pitches for KD’s film: “Then again, I think a “He Got Game” sequel could do really well at the box office. Jesus Shuttlesworth is all grown up and starring for the Boston Celtics, but now he has to deal with his son, Moses, who is going through a recruiting battle just like Jesus did in high school. Shave that goatee and Durant looks young enough to play an 18-year-old, so that works out nicely. In the climactic one-on-one battle, Denzel Washington will show up with an even bigger Afro, and everyone will have a hearty laugh. Comic relief is important.”
Berry Tramel on KD’s movie: “So what to do with Durant? I assume he’ll be a basketball player. Seems a little thin for NFL quarterback, a little tall for Kentucky Derby jockey. Comedy or drama? I’d go drama. KD seems more sensitive than slapstick. Love story or crime story? Crime, crime, crime. Kevin, trust me on this one. You don’t want your teammates critiquing your romantic skills. Never again will the locker room be the same.”
CBSSports.com’s top 100 list puts KD at No. 7.
Eric Freeman of BDL with a plot idea: “Cut to a generic boardroom. “Rutger Hauer hears about the basketball game and vows to suppress the revolt before it begins. He sends a group of soldiers to Vin Diesel’s part of town. Vin Diesel and Durant team up to defeat them. Rutger Hauer is ashamed and retires from ruling Earth. Then the intergalactic space worms land. Just when it seems they are going to kill everyone, Durant shoots another basket. The space worms explain that they have a similar game called “Ujpakimor.” Instead of killing all the humans, they just play a lot of basketball with them. All because Kevin Durant is such a nice guy. The entire movie will be around 30 minutes long. Let me know if you are interested, Kevin.”
Spanish team Joventut signed Latavious Williams.
Clipperblog compares Eric Gordon and Russell Westbrook: “So far, health and hope have favored OKC, but if all of that is equal, so seem the abilities of each team’s lead duo. This unbelievably talented quartet of 22-year-olds — all four born within six months of each other — is the basis for this comparison of these two teams at its most basic level, the reason why it makes sense to talk about them in the same category, if not the same class. Both clubs are rich in young talent and assets, but in all likelihood their success will come on the backs of Durant and Westbrook, Griffin and Gordon.”
Nate Robinson coaching up his kid in football. It’s a little weird.
