Tulsa Time: 66ers win thriller in Austin, go 1-3 for the week

A quick recap of what’s going on with Oklahoma City’s D-League affiliate, the Tulsa 66ers.

Tuesday: Tulsa fell 89-72 to the Austin Toros. Byron Mullens had 11 points

and five boards in 37 minutes, Larry Owens added 13 and Mustafa Shakur led the team with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. However, Shakur had seven turnovers. Alonzo Gee had 25 for the Toros.

Wednesday: As often happens in the D-League, the 66ers turned around and rematched the Toros a night later in Austin and Tulsa won a thriller 92-90. Shakur led the way with 26 points on 11-16 shooting and dished out four assists. DeVon Hardin had nine points and six rebounds, Mullens 14 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks and Cecil Brown added 19. Shakur knocked down the game-winner with 1.4 seconds left to secure Tulsa’s second win.

Friday: Tulsa fell 104-100 to Rio Grande Valley on the road. Shakur had another nice game with 24 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and five steals. Moses Ehambe hit four 3s as he added 18. Mullens scored 23 and pulled down nine rebounds, although he took 21 shots. Mike Harris, formerly with the Thunder in training camp scored 30 for the Vipers.

Saturday: Back at home. the 66ers dropped a third straight, as Mike Harris again powered the way for the Vipers with another 22. Mullens scored 21 points (10-18) and nine rebounds, but registered five turnovers. Hardin had 9-7 in 24 minutes, Shakur went 15-5-5 but had EIGHT turnovers. Ehambe added 16.

For the week, the player we’re all watching, Byron Mullens, averaged 17.3 ppg on 48 percent shooting, 8.8 rpg and 1.0 bpg. On the season, he’s averaging 15.4 ppg and 11 rpg.

The 66ers play just twice next week, both on the road against Springfield on Thursday and Saturday.
