VIDEO: Kevin Durant is currently the MVP
Here’s ESPN.com’s Tom Haberstroh on Numbers Never Lie laying out the reasons that Kevin Durant, not LeBron, is currently the front-runner for MVP.
Yes, LeBron is indeed averaging 25.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists. His team is 27-8.
But Durant is averaging 29.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists. His team is 27-8.
In conclusion, Kevin Durant is having the better season.
Let me say this as well: Durant has a whole lot to overcome to take it away from LeBron because the media is so entirely convinced that LeBron is the unquestioned, unchallenged best player in the world and by that default, the MVP for forever. Durant probably needs to beat him and outplay him at least once in their two meetings this season, and more likely both times to take it away.
But like I’ve said, this stretch where Westbrook is out could be a difference-maker for KD. If the Thunder can win some games and Durant continues to dominate, he’s going to start to pick up that necessary media buzz.
And as you can see, he’s generating some of it already.
