Kevin Durant introduces a new colorway. Again: “Kevin Durant is back to introduce yet another colorway of the Nike KD VI, this one aptly named “Precision Timing.” Both KD and Nike lead designer Leo Chang told us back in KICKS 16 that the intricate craftsmanship of a wristwatch was part of the inspiration for the shoe’s design. And with this edition, that inspiration is brought to the shoe in a more literal manner, like the radial machining lines on the upper, which look like fine wristwatch details. The KD VI “Precision Timing” drops on December 7 at retail and at Nike.com.” Seriously, is there anybody out there that every colorway? Still waiting for the Jurassic Park colorway, KD.
KD visited a local YMCA on his day off: “There Kevin Durant was, the morning after dropping 28 points in a late game against the Clippers, playing half-court ball with his buddies (each of them big enough to discomfort somebody sitting next to them on an airplane), talking noise and completely disregarding the “NO DUNKING ALLOWED” sign pasted to the window of the gym. The Y employee at the desk made me promise not to bother him, so I checked out a ball and headed to the other end of the court to practice corner threes and otherwise pretend like one of the two greatest basketball players on the planet wasn’t at the other end performing feats of scoring magic that I normally can’t afford to watch up close.”
Russ hosted a Thanksgiving dinner at the Oklahoma County Boys and Girls Club: “Thunder star Russell Westbrook hosted an early Thanksgiving meal for more than 500 people at the Oklahoma County Boys and Girls Club Tuesday night. Westbrook’s “Why Not” foundation and the United Way joined with “Adventures in Catering” to put on the event. Westbrook himself is a product of the South Central Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club. “Nothing but good influences you know kept me away from the streets, kept me inside with kids, and got me to learn different things,” he said.” He also posted this pic on Instagram showing his brodie and fam bam staying shaded while hosting a meal in LA.
Russ called Derrick Rose over the weekend: “Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook phoned Chicago guard and friend Derrick Rose over the weekend after seeing Rose suffer a torn medial meniscus Friday at Portland. The Bulls announced Monday that after undergoing surgery Rose will miss the remainder of the season. “It’s tough, man,” said Westbrook, who sustained a torn lateral meniscus on April 24. “I was watching the game. It’s just tough. Some things like that just happen, and it’s a tough situation for him. But he’s a strong guy so he’ll get back and come back stronger.” Westbrook said Rose was in good spirits when he spoke to him but empathized with how Rose must now undergo a second knee surgery. In the 2012 playoffs, Rose tore his left ACL, an injury that resulted in him missing the entire 2012-13 season.”
Life is rugged in he west: “For all of Oklahoma City’s NBA history, the Western Conference has ruled. More good teams. Deeper talent. But never more than this season. At least so far, the West’s domination is stunning. Only four of the West’s 15 teams have a losing record. Only three of the East’s 15 teams have a winning record. This is a ridiculous distribution of quality teams. The No. 8 team in the West is Denver, with a 7-6 record. That record would put the Nuggets third in the East. The No. 13 team in the West is New Orleans, at 6-8. That record would put the Pelicans tied for sixth in the East.”
All Eddie Vedder wants is a basketball team: “Maga-rock-band Pearl Jam was originally called “Mookie Blaylock” back in the day and they’re pretty big NBA fans. A large part of that came from their fandom of the Seattle Supersonics. (The band is from Seattle.) At recent shows in Charlotte and Oklahoma City, lead singer Eddie Vedder vented about Seattle fan’s frusration with losing the Sonics and the failed efforts to return a team when the effort lead by Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson helped keep the team in town.”
