Westbrook (likely) back Wednesday, Durant maybe in a week

One is back. The other is getting closer.

After missing just one game with a dented face, Russell Westbrook will likely return Wednesday against the 76ers. He went through most of practice today, but Scott Brooks wouldn’t commit entirely to Westbrook being in the lineup.

“He looked good today and it’s just how he feels tomorrow,” Brooks said. “I don’t want to jump the gun and say he’s going to for sure play, but he feels good today and we’ll see how he feel tomorrow.”

And yes: Westbrook will indeed wear a mask when he returns. But it won’t be as awesome as we might hope for.

“Fortunately for all of us, he does not get to choose his own color of the mask,” Brooks said. “It’s going to be a clear mask.”

As for Kevin Durant, he’s “progressing well,” according to Brooks, doing some light treadmill work and set shooting. However, he won’t be back this week as Brooks said Durant will be re-evaluated again in “a week or so.”

“He’s definitely trending in the direction we all like to eventually get on the court,” Brooks said. “He’s doing some very light shooting. He’s done some treadmill work. But like I said, we will re-evaluate him in a week or so.”

Steven Adams went through portions of practice today, his first one since breaking his hand three weeks ago. He was on the floor wearing a protective cover on his right hand. Brooks said Adams will be re-checked tomorrow as well, but it seems he might be out for a few days longer.

Adams was on the floor going through a hard, physical one-on-one drill with Serge Ibaka, and seemed confident with the hand. As for his role when he does return, as you might expect, Brooks was non-committal.

“I’ve thought about it, but it remains to be implemented,” Brooks said. “We have a good team. And when you have a good team you have to have guys sacrifice. There’s no better problem to have than a bunch of good players that are committed to the same common goal. And we have to always have that as the forefront. And Steven and Enes, or if we want to play smaller with Serge, Nick, Mitch, those guys can all play the 5. It’s not about two guys, it’s about all of our team sacrificing.”
