KD’s movie is called “Switch”?

So much for Space Jam 2: Rise of the Durantula.

Eagle-eyed reader Andrew (or possibly bored-at-work-and-iMDbing everything reader Andrew) sent along a tip to this iMDb page for a movie titled Switch which is set to come out in 2012. It’s starring as you might’ve guessed, one Kevin Wayne Durant. I’m just assuming this is the movie that KD’s supposed to be in. Putting two and two together here, I am.

The director is John Whitesell who has directed such films as Malibu’s Most Wanted, Big Momma’s House 2 and a bunch of TV episodes of “The Cosby’s,” “Law and Order,” “Blossom” and “Coach.” So as you can see, pretty impeccable resume there.

The writers are Eric Champnella (Eddie, Mr. 3000) and Jeff Farley, who this is his first screenplay. The movie’s budget is just $7,000,000 and is being produced by Warner Bros. If you’ll recall, there was a chance it was going to be in Oklahoma City, but because of financing and tax break details, it’ll be primarily shot in Baton Rouge.

KD is cast as himself, which I hope he’ll be good at playing. I mean, his Twitter bio does say, “I’m me, I do me and I chill.” So he’ll probably play a pretty chill version of himself. As of now, KD is the only person cast in the movie. But judging by the other names attached, I’m sure we can be looking for Rob Schneider, Anna Farris and Martin Lawrence to be joining the cast.

What could be Switch be about? Obviously it’ll include basketball and if I’m to judge a movie based entirely off its title and the writers and director attached to it, I’d say we’re looking at a family comedy where Kevin, a basketballing savant, pees in a fountain or something while Rob Schneider pees in the other side. Then by the works of some unknown magical universal powers, their abilities are suddenly switched with Schneider becoming an NBA All-Star while Kevin Durant is destined to leech pathetic roles from his new friend, Adam Sandler. Sounds like a winner, right?

(UPDATE: Reader Brent found this casting site that has a synopsis for the movie: “In a magical twist, Kevin Durant switches all of his basketball-playing skills with an enthusiastic young fan who becomes the star of his high school team… and leaving Durant and the Thunder helpless. With the playoffs approaching, they need to discover what it is that brought them together before the early end to the Thunder’s season.” Yeah, sounds super good. Only thing that’s going to save it is if Perk is an extra. I know what everyone’s thinking: Sounds like a movie that Russell Westbrook should watch, amirite?)

It’s set to start filming later this month.
